Common pitfalls when organizing
We have all fallen victim to one or more of these pitfalls. Yes, even me.
- Not decluttering/editing before organizing - If you are not decluttering first, you are just moving stuff around. If everything is special, then nothing is.

- Buying organizing products without a specific purpose
- Declutter/sort first, then organize, then determine which products (if any) will help you maintain it
- Being overly ambitious and then getting overwhelmed or distracted
- Start small - a drawer or cupboard
- Do a segment of the overall project. It’s great to see the progress over time. Keeps motivation high.
- Set a timer. It’s amazing what you can get done in 15 min.
- Not understanding how physically demanding and mentally/emotionally challenging it can be
- Up/down step stool, lifting/carrying heavy items, pulling, crouching in small or confined areas
- The mental toll of the decision making, esp sentimental items
- Not taking measurements - Know the dimensions of your shelf or space before purchasing anything. Trust me!

- Not creating new habits to maintain the spaces - Work with current routines to make maintaining the spaces easier for everyone
